THE DEITY AS A MOSAIC: IMAGES OF THE GOD XIPE TOTEC IN DIVINATORY CODICES FROM CENTRAL MESOAMERICA

Abstract In this article I argue that the graphic images of gods in divinatory codices are composed signs different semantic values which encode particular properties. All them contribute to creating identity god. However, these elements not only shared by deities, but even differ between representations same Analyzing Xipe Totec, one best-studied deities and oldest Mesoamerica, elaborate a hypothesis were perceived their authors as mosaic properties, at time dynamic.
